Sax with Friends at a Swansea 70th

Last weekend the sax went down a treat at Swansea for H’s 70th birthday party extending both Friday and Saturday nights, the days between & after & including 2 cakes

The party was held in huge ancient barn rebuilt by S, the current owner who must be but only accoladed for doing so and then more for providing such a venue. The barn was built of local stone a metre thick in some parts, most likely from the early 1800s, as part of Meredith’s land - the then farmer of fame and repute.

It was one of those classic Tassie parties that go on all weekend. The bonfire was made of logs 2 torsos thick burning on through the cold and completely unaffected by showers. The music from such a barn could only be forced out to those around the bonfire enjoying local fire juggling acts!

There were some great musos in the line-up playing old standards like Mustang Sally, Moondance and Baker Street & more. The setlist went on into the early hours. It required a lot of “winging it!” with large flakes of rust shaken out. It is amazing how 20 year old riffs just come out very old grey matter into the air like they’d just been played by “The Visitors”. A 1990s band I was in that performed regularly down at “The Customs House Hotel”.

A great gift for a 70th birthday event and 2 days later my lips are still sore from all that Sax!
